A Unique Glimpse Into Our Pioneering Past

Only a 10-minute drive from the lodge, Arrowtown is a charming village that feels a million miles away from the hustle & bustle of Queenstown.

History & Majesty

Nestled under towering peaks, on the banks of the sparkling Arrow River, Arrowtown came to life when gold was discovered here in 1862.  While the miners have gone, in many ways time has stood still in this beautifully preserved village.

The Lakes District Museum on the main street holds the fascinating accounts of pioneering life, and a short walk along the river brings you to the actual gold miner’s village.  There’s even the opportunity to try your hand at panning for gold, as well as many other activities in the surrounding hills.

Strolling & Shopping

The streets of Arrowtown are lined with heritage – and with shops, cafes and restaurants!  Soak in the atmosphere, and find your own treasures in the many boutiques, galleries and specialty shops.

Autumn Festival

Autumn is a highlight in Arrowtown – which is surrounded with ancient Sycamore, Ash, Oak and Elm trees.  The colours of autumn attract visitors and photographers from all over the world – and is celebrated every April at the Akarua Arrowtown Autumn Festival.
